Liquefied Natural Gas terminal in east coast India: Green Eenrgy

Kolkata, Sept. 12 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) India would set up its third largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal somewhere in the east coast to fulfill the requirement of gas and put thrust on green energy.
“Considering various factor like transportation availability, risk, cost effectiveness, futuristic fuel infrastructure and shortage of 180 mncc of LNG by 2014-15, we need pipeline and terminals for supply and storage,” said A.K. Baliyan, MD & CEO, Petronet LNG Ltd.The proposed terminal will be able to store upto 5 million tonne of gas, Baliyan said.
He was speaking at a conference on waste management in Kolkata organised by FICCI and Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Body (PNGRB) recently.
“We are very much behind the target of pipeline infrastructure required,” said Baliyan.
Three gas projects being set up in the in the eastern region are in limbo due to unavailability of gas supply.
Kakinada-Haldia pipeline which was authorised to Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) by the centre is supposed to supply natural gas from Krishna-Godavari (KG) to parts of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and southern districts of West Bengal.
The second project facing a roadblock is the 800-km Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOC) and Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL).

It is an ambitious project that once completed will transport compressed natural gas (CNG)  extracted in Gujarat to West Bengal.
It is going to be a Rs 7,600-crore pipeline running  from Jagdishpur in UP to Haldia in West Bengal sometime in 2013, to cater to requirements at Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Patna, Gaya, Bokaro, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Sindri, Durgapur, Katwa, Bandel and Kolkata along the way.
The third project facing uncertainty is Asansol-Kolkata pipeline project. It has been deferred for six months due to unavailability of  LNG and under bidding . After Kolkata, this pipeline  will extend upto Haldia.
Jagdishpur-Siliguri-Haldia pipeline covers Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and many other eastern states.
Many Gas Allocations (GAs) points are planned for the supply of LNG in states like Bihar, West Bengal ,Orissa and Sikkim.
In this region 15,000 km. long pipeline would be laid down by 2014 which will cost about Rs.10,000-15,000 crore, said B.S.Negi, Member of  PNGRB.
J.R.Bhardwaj, member of Chemical (Industrial) Disaster Management (CIDM), said, “PNGRB will help LNG suppliers to create an export forum, integrated management system, emergency service system and security system.”
